My name is Carey McNamara.  I am married to Bob, a kind and loyal man who lives his life with uncompromising integrity . . . and I am a mother to Connor, a spirited and tender boy who brings endless joy to our lives.  I work outside the home as a physician assistant, where I am particularly passionate about beating heart disease. In 2019 I started my own medical practice so I could utilize advanced testing to help more people (you can learn more at Whole Heart Family Medicine). However, when I am not at work I can often be found in my “Bible room,” as Connor calls it.

I am no theologian, I am not ordained, and I have not been to seminary; I am just someone who loves spending time in God’s presence, listening for His voice and mining deeper treasure from His Word.  Over the years, I have learned that God is not afraid of my questions . . . that He actually wants me to come before Him just as I am, with all my doubts and fears.  In fact, He is eagerly waiting for each of us to seek Him out, excited to reveal more of His heart to all who ask.

If you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5

When we come before God with a teachable spirit, and continue to pursue Him even in the midst of our pain and uncertainties, our journey toward understanding will cultivate deeper intimacy with our heavenly Father . . . and we will discover His relentless goodness along the way.  Even if we don’t uncover all of the answers, when we surrender to Him through the process, we will find peace for the road ahead.  Learning how to rest in the mystery of His ways is as much a gift as the answer itself.

In Biblical times, the Jews knew that the greatest Rabbis were not the ones who had all the answers; they were the ones who knew how to ask the right questions.  I am continually working out my own faith as I wrestle through questions with God and write this blog.  My sincere prayer is for the Lord to help me see with His perspective, in a way that unites His truth with His love, and embraces the spirit behind His words.  It is tempting to settle in the extremes of our beliefs, but Scripture admonishes us to live as both innocent and wise (Matthew 10:16) . . . to walk in both justice and mercy (Micah 6:8).  This balance is critical, and by His grace, one I seek to live out.

As God sheds light in these areas for me, I hope to encourage others in their own spiritual journey with the Lord.  As the pastor Steve Cobb would say, may we find . . .

Unity in the essentials, liberty in the non-essentials, and grace in all things.

LIFE because

God sent His Son to give us abundant life (John 10:10).

LIBERTY because

The Spirit of the Lord always brings liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17).

LOVE because

It’s the most important thing (Galatians 5:6).

I pray the Lord opens the eyes of your heart to see as He does.  May you encounter the fullness of God’s LIFE, experience the release of His LIBERTY, and receive a revelation of His LOVE.  You were created for these things.
